Set up a controller.

Set up the hardware, connect it to the customer’s Wi‑Fi, then claim it. Jump to any step below.

Part 1 · Get it online

1. Installer setup

Do the whole hardware setup before the customer’s Wi‑Fi is involved. Until it joins a network, the controller runs its own Wi‑Fi network, so you can connect straight to it with the app.

  1. Power it up

    Every strip shows a scrolling rainbow with white bars. Count the bars: that’s the channel number.

  2. Join its Wi‑Fi

    On your phone, join Lights Setup, password lights-setup.

  3. Open installer setup

    In the app, tap INSTALLER SETUP on the home screen. No account needed.

  4. Set it up and save

    Work through the sections below, then tap SAVE CHANGES.

Device

Give the controller a name.

Test the strips

RED, GREEN, BLUE, WHITE, SPAN and MOTION, to check wiring and length.

Channels

Pixel count, white channel and direction for each output. IDENTIFY lights one channel at a time.

Zones

Split the runs into areas the customer can light separately.

Why do it this way? Everything is saved on the controller itself. When the customer later connects it to their Wi‑Fi (step 2), it keeps your channel and zone setup — they never have to touch it.

Part 1 · Get it online

2. Connect to the customer’s Wi‑Fi

Over Bluetooth, from the app, with the customer’s Wi‑Fi password to hand.

  1. Start

    In the app, tap NEW DEVICE. Hold the controller’s button for 5 seconds, until the rainbow and bars show. Tap CONTINUE.

  2. Pick it

    Tap Lights-XXXX in the Bluetooth list. XXXX is the end of its hardware address.

  3. Choose Wi‑Fi

    Pick the network (or type a hidden one), enter the password, tap CONNECT.

  4. Finish

    The app waits until the controller shows up on the network. Tap FINISH.

Changing Wi‑Fi later? Tap UPDATE WI-FI on the app’s first screen (or Update Wi‑Fi in Device Settings) and repeat these steps. Nothing else changes.

Part 2 · After it’s connected

3. Claim it

Claiming puts the controller on your account, so it can run schedules and be shared.

  1. Find it

    An unclaimed controller on your network shows up in the app as available to add.

  2. Watch it flash

    The app flashes the controller’s lights.

  3. Confirm

    Tap YES, I CAN SEE IT. This proves you’re next to it.

“Already set up”? A controller belongs to one account at a time. Its current owner has to remove it first.

4. Name, time zone & location

In the app: Device Settings. Do this for each controller.

  1. Name

    Under Setup, set the Name. It starts as “Home”.

  2. Time zone

    Under Time & Location, set the Time Zone.

  3. Location

    Under Time & Location, set the Location. It’s used for sunrise and sunset schedules.

5. Channels & pixels

In Device Settings → Channels & Pixels. Tells the controller what’s wired to each output. Already done in installer setup? Skip this.

  1. Pick the hardware

    Choose your Hardware Model, or Custom.

  2. Set each channel

    Its Pin Assignment and pixel count.

  3. Match the lights

    Output (pixels or relay), LED Type, RGB Order, and Has White Channel for RGBW.

Part 2 · After it’s connected

6. Zones

In Device Settings → Zones. A zone is an area you can light and schedule on its own. Already done in installer setup? Skip this.

  1. Add a zone

    Tap Add Zone and name it.

  2. Add segments

    Each segment is a channel plus a pixel range.

  3. Or cover everything

    Tap Add a zone covering everything for one zone over the whole run.

Pixels that aren’t in any zone never light.
