Terms of Use for Chameleon Lighting

Effective October 9, 2026

These terms cover the Chameleon Lighting mobile app, the web app at app.chameleon.lighting, our cloud services, and the lighting controllers they connect to (together, the "Service"). "We", "us" and "our" mean Chameleon Lighting. By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

The Service

Chameleon Lighting is an app for iPhone and Android, plus ESP32-based LED controllers, for running permanent and holiday lighting. The app talks to your controllers directly over your home Wi-Fi, and, for the features that need it, through our cloud servers.

Local features and cloud features

Local control is free and needs no account. On the same Wi-Fi as your controller you can turn your lights on and off, play shows and colors, change settings and set up schedules stored on the controller itself.

Cloud features run on our servers and need an account plus either an activation or a subscription (described below). They include:

We may add, change or retire individual cloud features over time.

Accounts

You need an account to use cloud features. Give us accurate information, keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account, including what household members you invite do with your devices. You must be at least 13 to create an account. You can delete your account at any time — see how to delete your account.

Activation (one-time)

An activation is a one-time purchase for one account. It turns on cloud features for up to 5 controllers on that account, at one location or several, with nothing to renew. People you share your household with in the app use the same activation. A code activates the account that enters it, so it needs a signed-in account. Activations are sold as codes on our website and are included with some kits and professional installations. An activation belongs to the account it was entered on, not to a controller: a controller that is sold or given away does not take it along. Controllers beyond five keep working on local Wi-Fi without cloud features.

Chameleon Cloud annual subscription

Instead of a one-time activation, you can subscribe to Chameleon Cloud.

Free trial

New accounts may get a free 10-day trial of cloud features, starting when the first controller is added to the account. The trial is provided by us, not by the app store: it does not require a payment method and does not turn into a paid subscription on its own. When it ends, cloud features pause until the account is activated or subscribes. We may change or stop offering the trial, and it is limited to one per account and household.

When cloud access ends

If a subscription ends or a trial runs out, your lights keep working. Local control over your Wi-Fi carries on as before and your controllers keep running the schedules stored on them. Cloud features pause: calendars stop updating on their own, game-day and Rain Lights stop, and remote control, sharing and the assistant stop working. They come back when you subscribe again or activate your account.

Acceptable use

Please don't:

We may remove content, or suspend or close accounts, that break these rules.

Your content

Shows, patterns, palettes and events you create stay yours. You give us permission to store, process and display them as needed to run the Service. If you publish something to the community catalog, you also allow other users to view it and copy it into their own households. How we handle your data is described in our Privacy Policy.

The hardware

Controllers, LED strips and other hardware are covered by our warranty, not by these terms. Lighting hardware involves electricity and is often mounted outdoors or at height: install it according to its instructions and local electrical codes, or have a qualified installer do it. We may send firmware updates to your controllers to fix problems and add features.

Disclaimers

We work hard to keep the Service running, but it is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free. Cloud features depend on your internet connection and on outside services such as sports schedules and weather data, which can be wrong or late. Ask Chameleon can make mistakes, so check what it suggests before you confirm. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim about the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page, and the effective date above will change. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email. If you keep using the Service after a change, you accept the new terms.
