One activation code connects one Chameleon controller to the cloud, for good. There is no subscription and nothing recurring.

What a connected controller adds

Every Chameleon controller runs on your own network out of the box: the full effect engine across every zone and channel, Alexa, xLights and DDP, music-reactive lighting, the bundled library of 5,282 patterns, palettes and playlists, patterns and palettes you make yourself, up to 10 schedules, and app control over your own Wi‑Fi. None of that needs a code, none of it expires, and none of it is a trial.

A code adds the parts that need a server:

A calendar of any size — the events coming up are rotated onto the device’s 10 slots automatically, including holidays that move year to year
Sunrise and sunset anchors, which drift about two hours across a year
Sports team schedules, synced nightly and following games when they are rescheduled
Control from anywhere, rather than only on this network
Households, and sharing with family
Backup and restore
Automatic firmware updates
